First of all we have to say that this device comes with several different new things, when compared to the iPad 2, released in 2011. Like in all other cases, the first thing you have to consider is to choose a color (the only available colors are black and white) and then a model (Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 4G). Now the separation begins; users can select a 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB version, all these products having different prices.

Let's say you want to connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi and you're not interested in a 4G connection, because you don't have a network in your region that can provide you with very fast 4G cellular data. We have thought for today to compare 3 Android tablet computers. All of them are powerful, popular and destined to individuals and businessmen alike. We have preferred to choose only Android-based tablets, because we believe a comparison between the iPad, that runs the iOS and other Android tablets is not really a comparison, since they are so different. So we have chosen the ViewSonic's ViewPad 10pro tablet, the Arnova 10 G2, manufactured by Archos and the Asus TF101 Eee Pad Transformer.

Price

We start with the most important component, as some call it, of these tablets, a feature that can make the difference between them. If unfortunately you will experience a problem with your iPad, and you will have to send the iPad to the factory for repair, find that during warranty service the contents stored on your iPad will be deleted and reformatted. How does the Apple iPad 2 compare to other tablets? We all hear that this iPad 2 is the best tablet in the world, but we also hear many complaints regarding this product. So today, we have thought to present the iPad 2 gadget in comparison to other tablets. And we have selected the Motorola Xoom (the first generation), which obviously runs Android, the HP Touchpad that runs the webOS and the first generation iPad, to see how the Apple device evolved in 2011 from 2010, when first iPad was released.

By making a price comparison, we see the HP Touchpad is the cheapest product, $99, because HP has announced in 2011 that they will discontinue operations for webOS devices. That was also the moment when HP has dropped the price of the HP Touchpad tablets to no more than just a bargain. The iPad is cheap too, only that not that cheap ($399; although you can find it for lower prices, as well). This happens probably because now we have the iPad 2 on the market and every time Apple releases a new device included in a specific category, products released earlier and included in the same category automatically become cheaper. The iPad 2, on the other hand, starts from $499. The Motorola Xoom, which was released on February 24, 2011, is sold for $499.

The screen size of the iPad 2 is the same as the one of the first generation iPad: 9.7 inches. Because of that, the display resolution is the same too: 1024 x 768 pixels. This is the resolution provided by the 9.7 inch screen of the HP Touchpad as well. Because the Motorola Zone has a larger screen (10.1 inches), it is capable of offering a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

At the Memory chapter, the iPad released in 2010 used to have 256 MB; the iPad 2 uses 512 MB, twice as much. Having this in mind, we expect to see the iPad 3 using 1 GB of RAM. This is a disadvantage for the iPad 2, because the Motorola Xoom and the HP Touchpad already use 1 GB of RAM.

The processor used in the iPad 2 is the 1 GHz Apple A5 dual core processor. For the first generation iPad, Apple has used the 1 GHz Apple A4 chip. By maintaining the same principle, we expect the A6 chip integrated in the iPad 3. Unfortunately for the iPad, the Touchpad uses a more powerful processor (1.2 GHz), developed by Snapdragon. The Xoom uses a 1 GHz dual core processor, manufactured by Nvidia.

At the beginning, meaning in 2010, Apple did not use cameras for their tablets, but in 2011, they have reconsidered this and integrated front and rear VGA cameras with video recording of up to 30 frames per second. The Motorola gadget uses a 5.0 MP rear facing camera and a 2.0 MP front camera and the HP Touchpad, only one camera, on the front, having 1.2 MP.

Do you know what you will do on March 7, 2012? Because Apple knows very well. They have set a media event for 10 AM PT, March 7.

According to MacWorld.com, the event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, location where everybody expects Apple to release their new tablet. This is not a new place for Apple; they have hosted many other events there in the past few years. In fact, this is the place where Apple has unveiled the first generation iPad in 2010 and the iPad 2 in 2011.

We don't know exactly what are the components integrated in this new device or if Apple will launch their new tablet in March 2012, but we definitely hope that the iPad will receive a retina display and also the new processor, which is so rumored to be integrated in this new product, the A6 chip. If these are the most important hardware information related to the iPad 3, Siri stands out at the Software chapter. This is a technology recently introduced to iPhone 4S users, technology that allows them to communicate easier with their device, simply by using their voice. This makes Siri a good candidate for an iPad 3 component. This will make the device better because of the inclusion of the Apple’s Virtual Assistant; these days, the only device that uses this Virtual Assistant is the iPhone 4S.

In terms of communications and networks, the iPad 3 is said to use the new 4G LTE standards. Again, this is just a rumor.

Several updates related to this news speak about the same price the iPad 3 will have. This means the 16 GB version will cost $499, if we believe the rumors. In this case, probably the iPad 2 will be down to say, $399 or even cheaper.
